The Official Fresno Sister Cities Youth Ambassador Exchange Program will send Fresno County high school students to Fresno’s Sister City of Verona during the 2010 Summer vacation period.
This program provides students with a unique opportunity to broaden their perception of the world while offering them an enriching summer exchange experience.
Students will live with a pre-selected student of the same sex and age in a host family who speaks English for 3 weeks; or college students may stay in a dorm at the University of Verona.
The Student Ambassadors will leave Fresno as a group, with Dr. Mobili and another teacher the week of May 24, 2010.
Verona lies in a rich valley in the Veneto Region of Italy. It's halfway between Venice, which is one hour to the East and Milan, which is one hour to the West.
Surrounding this old Roman city is the Valpolicella wine region on one side, the Soave region on the other and the Bardolino on the third. The great mountains of the Dolomite complete this city's stunning location.
Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy is about 20 minutes away and is surrounded by small, picturesque villages that can be traveled to by car or by ferry.
Fresno County high school and college students have a unique opportunity to visit Fresno's Official Sister City of Verona during the Summer break of 2010.
Language students travel over with Dr. Giorgio Mobili, professor at CSUF for a 3 week Italian immersion course and are hosted in an Italian student's home; or college students may stay in the dormitory of the University of Verona.
There is also the possibility of 2 week supplemental courses in singing Opera in Italian at the Idea Verona School and a Master Class in Piano, taught by Maestro Edoardo Strabiloli.
All exchange participants must host, if Italian students come to Fresno in return, for two weeks in August of 2010.
Students go over in a group the week of May 24, 2010. Cost for the program is $1950 which includes RT airfare, immersion courses, all tours and hosted accommodations.
